[Gilbert Laird Jessop. Batsman. Fastest run-scorer. Gloucestershire cricketer] Though one of the latest additions to the County eleven, G.L. JESSOP has already in the space of two years taken a prominent position in Gloucestershire cricket. Last season was practically his first trial in matches of any importance, and his all-round play was sufficiently good to justify great hopes of his future in the event of his being able to devote any great amount of time to the service of his County. Unfortunately scholastic duties have so far admitted of occasional appearances in first-class cricket. Both in batting and bowling he showed undoubted promise last summer. This year has certainly not disappointed expectations, and his all-round cricket for Gloucestershire, at the Oval, was worthy of high praise. A resolute batsman, he is bound to be dangerous on any wicket if he once gets used to the ground. A fast bowler, he keeps up his end with unstrung energy, and mostly a good length wants very careful playing. Photograph by R. W. Thomas (1895). Antique photographic book plate, 35.5 x 22.0cm, 14 x 8.5 inches
