Müller, Otto Martin

Otto Martin Müller (1913–2002) was a Swiss artist and graphic designer known for his pictorial maps and illustrations. Born in Zurich, he apprenticed as a lithographer in 1928–1929 and later studied at the Art Institute Orell Füssli, drawing inspiration from German Expressionism and the Bauhaus movement. In 1934, Müller began working as a freelance graphic designer in Zurich. By 1937, he gained recognition with commissions from the Swiss Traffic Center, including a 1941 pictorial map of Switzerland. He later created tourist promotional pictorial poster maps of the regions of Switzerland including Valais, Grisons, and Ticino, as well as smaller book illustrations. His most famous work is the "Cheese Map of Switzerland," produced for the Swiss Cheese Union and published in several editions between 1967 and 1994.
