Nagoya, the shrine island of Itsukushima, Batavia and the Lang Biang area of Vietnam show how far these vintage maps by Japanese Government Railways reach beyond Japan itself. Dating from 1913 to 1924 and made for travellers, they include Japanese plans of Nagoya, the Boso Peninsula, Tokyo Bay and Itsukushima in Hiroshima Bay, and they cover destinations elsewhere in East and Southeast Asia, among them Batavia, now Jakarta, and Semarang in Java.
