Atlas of Scotland

The Atlas of Scotland, published in 1832 by John Thomson & Co. of Edinburgh, with distribution by Baldwin & Cradock in London and John Cumming in Dublin, was a landmark in 19th-century Scottish cartography. Designed to provide a comprehensive and highly detailed topographical record, the atlas featured large-scale county maps, many drawn from original surveys or compiled from recently updated plans, with boundaries verified by named authorities. The maps were engraved with exceptional clarity and precision, capturing not only the natural features of the landscape but also towns, roads, and other points of importance. Intended as a definitive cartographic reference at the time of publication, The Atlas of Scotland remains highly prized for its scale, accuracy, and contribution to the visual and geographic history of Scotland.
