Small Isle of Wight churches and an island villa give the engravings attributed to A. Brannon an intimate local scale. Published in the early 1840s, they show the churches of St Lawrence, Bonchurch and Shanklin, several of them in the Undercliff on the island's southern coast, and Newport Villa with horses in the foreground. Alfred Brannon worked within the Brannon family's tradition of island engraving and publishing, best known through Vectis Scenery, and these plates show the buildings as nineteenth-century visitors knew them.
