Brown, whose designs were reproduced in Fullarton's illustrated geographical publications in the nineteenth century. The Scottish plates show Dunkeld from Torr Hill, Killiecrankie and Logierait, Comrie Castle, Doune Castle and the Roman camp at Ardoch. In the Gazetteer of the World his work reaches south to Windsor Castle seen from the west and to Liverpool viewed across the shipping on the Mersey. These plates credit the designer separately from the engraver, among them John Smith on the Windsor view.
