Merveilleux, David François de

David François de Merveilleux (1652-1712) was a French geographer, cartographer & mathematician. Notable for his several maps of Neuchâtel (1694-1720), and of Switzerland (1713), and for re-issuing the maps of Seutter (1760). We have a selection of his maps in our catalogue, including 'Carte de la souveraineté de Neuchatel et Vallangin' (c1745). Extensive mathematical knowledge (he publishes a treatise on arithmetic and geometry). In 1695 he entered the service of King William III of England who granted him the status of Captain Engineer.
