William Mudge (1762–1820) was an English artillery officer and surveyor, born in Plymouth. He was a founding figure of the Ordnance Survey in 1791, and was later appointed as its Official Superintendent in 1798, a position he held until 1820. The first map published by the Ordnance Survey in 1801, a highly detail map of Kent, was produced under his superintendance and is known as the "Mudge map". He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society the same year. He was the godson of the diarist and naval administrator Samuel Pepys.
