Orme, Edward
Edward Orme (1775–1848) was a prominent British engraver, publisher, and printseller, known especially for high-quality illustrated works at the turn of the 19th century. Among his most celebrated publications is Foreign Field Sports, Fisheries, Sporting Anecdotes, &c. (1813–14), which contains 98 striking hand-coloured aquatint plates based on drawings by artists such as Howitt, Atkinson, Clark, Manskirch, and others. This lavish volume, notable for its depictions of exotic and European sporting practices, is regarded as one of the great colour-plate books of the Regency period. Orme’s firm also issued fine military and topographical prints, catering to a fashionable clientele interested in travel, exploration, and the picturesque.
