Crumbling façades, crowded squares and the Zwinger at Dresden fill these lithographs, which Samuel Prout drew directly on stone. Published as Facsimiles of Sketches Made in Flanders and Germany, the series kept the look of a watercolourist's drawing, with every broken surface and irregular outline that caught his eye. The views travel from Regensburg and Cologne to Mechelen, Strasbourg and Dresden, where the formal Zwinger stands apart from the older street scenes. Museum catalogues date the work to 1833, though individual sheets here are catalogued around 1830.
