SDUK Atlas

The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) Atlas, published from the late 1820s - originally as a part-work - through the 1850s, was a groundbreaking effort to make high-quality geographical information accessible to the general public at an affordable price. The maps, renowned for their clarity and precision, were engraved by J. & C. Walker, J. Henshall, Benjamin Rees Davies and others. Initially published by Baldwin & Cradock, and later by Chapman & Hall and Charles Knight, the atlas included an extensive range of subjects—from global maps and regional surveys to detailed city plans and astronomical charts. The SDUK Atlas remains admired today for its elegant design & geographic accuracy.
