Tallis's London Street Views
Tallis’s London Street Views, published between 1838 and 1840 by John Tallis, is a remarkable visual record of the streetscape of early Victorian London. Issued in parts, the series featured finely engraved, elevation-style street views showing both sides of the city's major thoroughfares, complete with the names of individual businesses, shopfronts, and public buildings. Designed to appeal to both residents and visitors, the views combined topographical accuracy with commercial detail, offering a unique snapshot of London’s urban and commercial landscape at a time of rapid growth and change. The engravings, many by J. Rapkin, are prized today for their charm, historical value, and insight into the architecture and street life of 19th-century London.
