Titian's mythologies, sacred scenes and Venetian portraits, as nineteenth-century art books chose to reproduce them, fill this collection of engravings. Among the subjects are Bacchus and Ariadne, Venus and Adonis, Ganymede and the Holy Family, while saints and St Jerome add a devotional strand and there are portraits of Venetian dignitaries and of the printer Francesco Marcolini. Tiziano Vecellio, the Venetian Renaissance painter, was active by the early sixteenth century and died in 1576, so these nineteenth- and early twentieth-century plates are later reproductions after his work rather than prints made by him.
