Carnall, Rudolf von

Rudolf von Carnall (1804-1874) was a Prussian mining engineer and geologist who made significant contributions to the geological mapping and surveying of Prussia. The mineral Carnallite i named after him. He was born in Glatz (now Klodzko, Poland). In 1845 he founded the Deutsche Geologische Gesellschaft (German Geological Society) along with Leopold von Buch and Gustav Rose. In 1860 he produced the nine sheet "Geologische Karte von dem Niederschlesischen Gebirge" (Geological Map of the Lower Silesian Mountains), with Rose and others.
