CAPTION PRINTED BELOW PICTURE: 'Stark's Geographical, Historical, Chronological, Biographical, Mineralogical and Railway Chart of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland'

A rare and decorative map of the British Isles, known to be held in only two institutions. We can find no record of this map having been sold at auction. Probably published for the Great Exhibition. The borders of the map contain text panels of text listing important dates in the history of Britain from A.D.100 to 1851. Inner border panels contain brief descriptions of the English counties. The lower border contains four panels which detail the history of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. Running around the inside of the entire border is a family tree which traces the royal lineage all the way from Queen Victoria back to the Saxon King Egbert of A.D.627. Two comparative charts show the heights of Britain's mountains and the lengths of its rivers. Curiously, Ben Macdui is listed as Britain's highest peak and taller than Ben Nevis, although the Ordnance Survey had built a trig point on the summit in 1847, confirming Ben Nevis to be taller.

Packing

Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes. In the unlikely event of damage in transit, please send the affected item or items back to us and we will provide a replacement or refund.

Returns

We accept returns for any reason if sent back to us within 14 days of receipt of your order.
