CAPTION PRINTED BELOW PICTURE: London Transport - Underground Lines No 2. 1941 [741.2780G.300M]

This scarce and unusual edition of the Underground diagram is the first designed by Harry Beck since 1938. The use of different colours for the Underground lines has been reintroduced. This is the only edition in which the map has been redrawn using 60 degree lines instead of 45 degree lines, and interchange stations are shown as interlocking rings. A large number of the Underground Station names are duplicated if they serve more than one Underground line. The GWR and LMSR between Uxbridge Road and Willesden Junction is no longer shown - there is a note staing that service petween Earls Court and Willesden Junction has been suspended . The logo of an Underground roundel with London Transport printed inside the circle, has been reintroduced on this version of the map. The map continues to show as under construction the "New Works Plan" (Northern Heights project) to take over the ex-GNR line between Finsbury Park and Edgware and High Barnet, including the Alexandra Palace branch. These were to be incorporated into the Northern Line with a new connection with the Northern City line at Finsbury Park, and an extension from Edgware to Bushey Heath. The project was abandoned at the onset of World War 2 and never restarted, though these lines continued to be shown as under construction until 1950. The Central Line extension to the west is shown as being under construction as far as Denham (though it eventually was only completed as far as West Ruislip), and to Ongar in the east.
