Delamarche [family]

Delamarche was a French cartographic dynasty founded in the late 18th century. Charles Francois Delamarche (1740-1817) proclaimed himself the heir to Didier Robert de Vaugondy (and in so doing apparently he swindled Robert de Vaugondy's widow and children, leaving them impoverished), whose atlases he reissued. He also acquired most of the work of earlier cartographers Lattre, Bonne, Desnos and Janvier. His son Félix Delamarche inherited his father's map publishing company, Maison Delamarche, which was later passed down to Alexandre Delamarche (1815-1884). Félix's "Atlas de la géographie ancienne et moderne" (1820) was reprinted through the mid 19th century.
