Hutchison, Harold

London Underground maps printed in the early 1960's were credited to London Transport publicity officer Harold Hutchison. In 1960, for the first time in nearly 30 years, Beck’s map design was updated (without consulting him) to show the new Victoria line. The sharp angles and square interchanges of Hutchison's design were not widely admired, and in 1962 Paul Garbutt took on the mantle of LT's map designer. He brought back the feel of Beck’s work, but retained Hutchison’s innovations of using black rings for interchange stations and lower-case text for non-interchange stations.
